The People Behind Be a Light: Stories of Healing, Purpose,
and Unstoppable Hope
Behind every movement that changes lives, there are people ordinary individuals who chose to turn their deepest battles into something brighter. Be a Light was not built by chance. It was built by warriors, mothers, servants, and believers who refused to give up. Their stories are the heartbeat of the advocacy, the proof that healing is possible, and the reminder that hope is never out of reach.
Here are the extraordinary people who carry the flame forward.
Maria Carla Urgino
The Founder
“Be a light so that others can see their own light before it’s too late.”**
In 2013, Carla faced a life-changing diagnosis: an incurable autoimmune disease. Overnight, her world was filled with fear, pain, and uncertainty. Doctors told her the illness would progress. Her body was weakening but her spirit was not.
Carla discovered immuno-modulatory science that helped restore her health. She experienced a transformation so profound that she could not keep the light to herself. What began as a fight for survival became a mission bigger than her pain.
She has since walked with more than 200 warriors—children, mothers, fathers, survivors—each one a reminder of why the vision must continue. Be a Light is her promise to turn suffering into service, fear into faith, and pain into purpose.
Today, her dream is bold: to reach 1,000 more who need to know healing is possible and they are not alone.
Carla is the lighthouse that started it all.
Hyacinth Dacanay
Co-Founder
From data to destiny, numbers to purpose.
Hya spent years studying markets, graphs, and corporate trends. But despite the professional success, something inside her felt incomplete. She longed for time freedom time to care for her aging parents, and time to serve people in a way data never could.
A spiritual calling changed everything. Hya asked herself: What does it mean to be a “good and faithful servant”?
This question led her from the corporate world into the heart of service. Today, she uses her analytical mind and compassionate heart to help guide families in their healing journey. She is proof that success is not measured by promotions or titles, but by how deeply you are willing to serve.
Hya is the quiet strength behind the movement calm, faithful, and purpose-driven.
Macquiline Adana
Co-Founder
Mother. Instructor. Fighter. Leader.
Macky is a culinary instructor, a mother of four, and a woman whose strength was shaped by fire. Her life shifted when she found herself battling multiple life-threatening conditions. There were moments when the weight of her diagnoses felt unbearable. But Macky did not surrender.
Through the same healing program that saved Carla, Macky found her path back to health. Instead of hiding her scars, she turned them into her testimony.
Today, she leads her own team of advocates proof that a mother’s love and resilience can move mountains. She balances her life in the kitchen, her calling as a mother, and her mission to help others reclaim their health.
Macky is a living reminder that the strongest warriors are often the gentlest hearts.
Our Approach
We Light the Pathways to Healing
At Be a Light, our work begins with a simple but powerful truth: every child and every family deserves a future where hope is possible. Our approach is rooted in compassion, science, and community woven together to create healing that is holistic and deeply human.
We don’t just respond to illness. We empower the body to recover through immuno-rehabilitation, strengthen families through consistent support, and nurture emotional and spiritual resilience through shared stories of survival. Every family that enters our circle becomes part of a growing movement grounded in care, connection, and courage.
Our advocacy thrives because it is carried by people who have lived through illness, found healing, and now extend their light to others. From science-backed wellness support to community-led encouragement, everything we do emerges from a desire to make each day a little brighter for those who feel overwhelmed, unseen, or afraid. Healing becomes more possible when families see that they are not walking alone.

— Our Mission
Our mission is to bring hope, health, and steady guidance to children and families facing chronic illnesses. We work to strengthen the immune system, restore confidence, and walk hand in hand with families as they rebuild their wellness and their lives. Through compassionate service and science-based support, we strive to be a light that leads them toward a healthier tomorrow.
02.
— Our Vision
We envision a future where no child’s healing journey is hindered by fear, lack of access, or isolation. Be a Light aims to grow from supporting 35 families to reaching 400 and beyond, building a nationwide community grounded in wellness, empowerment, and shared hope. Our vision is a Philippines where health advocacy becomes a culture, and where every family finds a pathway toward recovery and resilience.
03.
— Our Story
Be a Light was born from the lived experiences of warriors who chose purpose over pain. Its founder overcame an “incurable” autoimmune condition and turned her survival into a mission to guide others. Early advocates many of whom battled their own life-threatening illnesses saw firsthand how healing transforms not just the body, but the spirit. Together, they built a community where stories are honored, fears are eased, and every small victory is celebrated.
What began as one woman’s fight for her life has become a growing movement dedicated to illuminating the darkest moments for others. Be a Light continues to expand, not because of numbers or programs, but because healing inspires healing and every family we help becomes part of a legacy of hope.
